The message that I got from this quote, “It matters what matters we use to think other matters with; it matters what stories we tell to tell other stories with; it matters what knots knot knots, what thoughts think thoughts, what ties tie ties. It matters what stories make worlds, what worlds make stories.” is that everything has a beginning as to how it started. At first, I had a hard time understand what the quote meant but once you’re able to get a good understanding of things will start to click. For instance, when I was reading Butler, she got majority of her ideas from historical events or real life problems we face today. Also, when we talk about the different worldings from Haraways speech, she talks about how speculations throughout the universe. Lastly, I also thought of the Chiang story as to protecting what we already have before its gone. In addition, that was my overall perspective of the quote.

As I was reading Butlers article, she pretty much talked about how she created the stories in her books. She first talks about when she started written her stories, they were terrible, but she keeps trying every day. Then started to think to herself that she should dwell on the old stories that dint make since and start looking deeper into things. So, she made up these characters in her books that had supernatural powers based off children who suffered from their mothers being drug addicts while being pregnant with them. Then she includes a character that has something to do with global warming. So, all this to say she pretty much talks about the things that are happening in the world.

In Haraways, speech she first talks about the people that inspired to be a part of the science fictional world. She talks about how their work speaks volumes to her and made her want to go even further into her research. Then she goes on to talk about different worldings through the universe. Everything had to have a beginning and that everything is connected to one another. An example would be when she talks about the string called “Coyotes Running Opposite Ways” and this symbolize the different ways of how the world. So, what I got from this quote is that there are many possibilities that it was different universes before the one we currently know about.

When I was reading the Chiang reading, he talks about almost everything but mostly anatomy and the world we live in. He pretty much has made up a world where the citizens that live in SF world make better choose for what they do to the plants because if they don’t, they will lose their lives. He also expresses how the lungs are a key thing his is story and how we as humans don’t think too much about breathing of a daily basis. Then he goes 8into the science of the lungs and how it works in the world he made. In conclusion, these stories pretty much helped me to understand what that quote means and also that an idea has to be generated from something that already exist.
